Wall to Wall is the title of the music and picture exhibition featuring new work by North East Artist and Musician Martin Matthews.
Themed geographically, and set between the Northumbrian coastline and Carrickmacross in County Monaghan, this visual and musical journey starts in Lindisfarne and loosely follows the route of Hadrian’s Wall traversing the country and crossing the Irish Sea at Allonby on Solway to make landfall at the shore of Dundrum Bay in County Down where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea. The Mourne Wall is generally less well known, yet this monumental structure stretches its 22 mile length over 15 mountains and encompasses the Silent Valley reservoir complex. We follow the Wall, through the Mourne’s to Carlingford Lough and on via Camlough and Sliabh Gullion to Carrickmacross in County Monaghan in the Irish Republic
Martin’s work features locations from the many walks made over the years with old school friends Brian Convey and Mick McCarthy (in England) and brothers in law, Manus O’Boyle from Newcastle, Co Down and Donal O’Hanlon from Newry Co Down, in Ireland.
The music accompanying this art project features traditional and newly composed tunes which reflect the indigenous music found in each locality. Many musical friends from England, Scotland and Ireland have helped and collaborated and each set of music or song is paired with a matching picture. There are three collections of music accompanying this artistic journey.
